..Despite Fall in Mortality Rate. Health charities said today that the number of people dying from alcohol-related deaths was unacceptably high, despite new figures showing a decline in mortality rates after many years of increases…Throughout 2007, there were 8,724 alcohol-related deaths, lower than in 2006, but more than double the 4,144 recorded in 1991. Don Shenker, chief executive of Alcohol Concern, said that despite the recent fall, the rises since the 1990s meant that the UK was now above the European average level for liver disease.
